New social centre opens for elderly people in Wolverhampton

A £500,000 state-of-the-art social centre opened its doors in Wolverhampton recently. The Showell Court social centre, built by Accord Housing Association and Wates Living Space, caters for pensioners in Wolverhampton and provides a range of facilities for up to 30 elderly residents each day in Low Hill.

Pensioners will have access to a nail bar, hairdressing and beauty salons – treatments ranging from facials and aromatherapy to manicures – and a fully equipped gym with low impact machines.

Third year students studying hair and beauty at City of Wolverhampton College will sharpen their skills at the centre and offer cut-price treatments to all visitors. This shows how organisations are working together in partnership to benefit the residents of Wolverhampton.

This new facility and its services support what we are trying to achieve in the City Strategy (the road map for the city) by encouraging healthier lifestyles and independence and also helping to develop a skilled workforce.
